Laughing kookaburra or blue-winged kookaburra??? Don't know why it put that underlined and in blue....these guys are VERY cool and I heard this crazy sound outside the balcony so had to take a peek and then a couple of shots. My resident biologists can furthur identify for me but they are cool birdies!!! I love Australian wildlife!

Hey, that is quite a coterie of kookaburras you've got there. I'm pretty darn jealous... I sent you an email, and they are the "laughing" kind. Hope you enjoy my description of the calls of the blue-winged that I found in my field guide, it was a unique description ("appalling" was a term I have never seen describing a bird call). I always got a kick of how Peterson described the harpy eagle: "Huge" But I think the "appalling" term buries that by a long shot.
